What is a debt collection notice?

Receiving a debt collection notice can feel stressful, but it doesn’t have to be complicated. We’re here to help you understand what’s going on and what your options are.

A debt collection notice is issued when an invoice hasn’t been paid on time. It’s usually the final reminder before the case is passed on to the Swedish Enforcement Authority (Kronofogden).

What costs are added when you receive a debt collection notice?

In addition to the original debt, a statutory fee of SEK 180 is added. You may also be charged a reminder fee.

Interest on late payments may apply from the due date until the debt is settled. This interest is charged either according to the agreement or as prescribed by law.

Can the debt be paid in instalments?

If you are unable to pay the full amount at once, we can usually set up a payment plan. Please contact us on +46 (0)63 453 03 35 or email us at info@alpidus.se.

What happens if I don’t pay?

If the debt remains unpaid, the case may be escalated to the Swedish Enforcement Authority or even to court.

The quicker you respond and settle the debt, the better your chances of avoiding extra costs and unnecessary consequences. If the case reaches the Swedish Enforcement Authority, it becomes more expensive and may affect your company’s credit rating. Once a case is registered with the Authority, your company will receive a payment default record.

Does a debt collection notice mean my company gets a payment default record?

No, receiving a debt collection notice does not automatically mean your company will get a record – as long as the debt is paid by the due date.
